Portraiture Workshop

Join us at the birthplace of America’s greatest portraitist for a hands-on, immersive Portraiture Workshop designed to help you master the art of capturing the soul behind the face. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist looking to refine your skills, this portraiture workshop with Doug Johnson will deepen your understanding of this most intimate of genres.

All ages and skill levels are welcome!

Materials will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own supplies.

High Tea in Elizabeth Stuart's Herb Garden

Our ever popular Formal Tea in Elizabeth Stuart’s Herb Garden is back again!

Director Emeritus, Master Gardener and expert on colonial plant uses, Margaret O’Connor, will guide visitors through the Gilbert Stuart Birthplace’s colonial dooryard garden. Surrounded by herbs and flowers, you will learn about the myriad ways that plants, herbs flowers and roots made colonial life better. From refreshing tonics to clothing dye and from flavoring food to treating ailments, the colonial garden was a full of delights!

Follow the talk with a full, traditional high tea, where you can enjoy the most enduring, sweet and soothing uses for many of these plants and herbs with the decadent delicacy of a tea party!

Gilbert Stuart Summer Concert

Saturday, July 12, 2025 5:00 - 8:00pm

Grab a deck chair or blanket and a picnic basket to enjoy the sounds of summer at the beautiful Gilbert Stuart Birthplace.

The Narrow River Band will be playing their signature acoustic rock sound, specializing in a wide range of music from classic tunes of the 60s and 70s right up to inspired songs from emerging musical talent of today. Rich vocal harmonies combine with acoustic guitar, bass, drums, ukulele, and mandolin to form a rich full sound that satisfies all tastes.

Admission to the Birthplace grounds is free for this event. Come and enjoy the Birthplace’s beautiful, idyllic scenery while you dance the evening away.
