The Gilbert Stuart Birthplace and Museum is a non-profit organization supported by the generosity of our members, their participation, and donations.

The Gilbert Stuart Birthplace and Museum preserves the birthplace of Gilbert Stuart and its surrounding acreage. Focused on history, art, and nature, the Museum is charged with directing and supporting its operation as a National Historic Landmark and with the conservation of its natural setting.

Join our Family of Volunteers

Artists-in-Residence

Artists who participate in our Artists-in-Residence Program, come to paint or photograph on the Museum grounds. Their artwork is highlighted in special exhibits and sales held in our gallery.

Gardening Volunteer

Our extensive 24 acre site is generously dotted with gardens of wild and cultivated flowers.  For those with a green thumb and a passion for the botanical, there are multiple opportunities to contribute to the care and development of our gardens.  If you are interested, please contact the museum for more information.

Docents / Volunteers

Volunteer opportunities available at the Museum include historical interpreters (docents), and volunteers for gardens, special events, newsletter, and more. Individualized training is available for those interested in becoming a museum docent. Scheduling and time commitments are flexible.
